5 EASY WAYS TO BECOME INDISPENSABLE AT WORK

People try in so many ways to ensure their job security because no job can be said to be completely safe. When you are indispensable at your work place, you do not only create your job security; you also give yourself the opportunity to chart your course in life.

Though nobody is irreplaceable, you can be indispensable. To be indispensable means that you are so good and efficient at your job that your supervisor(s), employer(s) and fellow employees as the case may be, do not want to imagine replacing you. When you are indispensable, your supervisors count on you to the extent that they believe without you the productivity of your department will suffer; you become pivotal to the overall achievement of your company.

It may be that you develop a skill that is special to you, a knowledge that is unique to you, or you monopolise a position in the company and make it unique to you.

Here are some ways that could help you become almost indispensable at your place of work:

SHOW GENUINE INTEREST IN YOUR JOB

If you realise that you do not like the job you are doing presently, you might consider changing your job because you can’t be indispensable at a job that you do not like. If you have no other options, why can’t you love your job? Is it not the reason you can pay your bills?

Make your job your top priority! Don’t lose it before you realise how important your job is to your life.

You don’t give your employers the impression that your life depends on your job, rather you show them that you love what you are doing and make it obvious to your employers that you have great passion for the success of the organisation.

DO NOT WORK TO IMPRESS, RATHER TO EXPRESS YOURSELF

Avoid eye-service. Even though most bosses are lovers of what we call eye-service, you don’t have to work to impress your boss. Do not work to impress s/he, rather you work to express yourself and fulfill the purpose for which you were employed. Many of your colleagues may be doing what your employer wants, you also don’t have to thread that path. I believe you have impressed your boss enough in your interview so what is the need for eye-service again?

As a result of being expressive, you stand out from every other employees and gain the love of your boss.

BE POSITIVE

A great and indomitable attitude is perhaps a great asset. You don’t dwell too much on negativity in your place of work. Why should you when focusing on negativity would not bear you good fruits? Even if you have been transferred to a department or a location that seems unpleasant to you, you don’t need to over react. Only take the positive side of it. A positive attitude goes a long way in improving the interpersonal relationship of an individual. Try and smile as much as you can and control the urge to say things you might regret later.

BE A STAR OUTSIDE YOUR WORKPLACE

The great works you do outside your office follow you even to the office in the form of respect. Build a brand for yourself outside your office; everyone likes working with a super star. Focus on building new relationships at conferences you attend, at networking events, by doing charity work, blogging, social networking, and by joining special interest groups.

WORK HARD

Find the tasks that need to get done in the company and monopolise them. Most employees can find tasks at work to stay busy, pass the time, and fly under the radar of the boss.  To become indispensable, you’ll want to dig deeper and really think about the work that matters to the success of the company. Be the first person to take on any given task. Do works that matter, not works that are easy.

Lastly, no company will want to lose the customers’ favorite employee. Be good to your clients. Build a strong relationship with them. You can make yourself familiar with them to the extent they always request for you before doing any business with the company.
