You might be dejected, thinking you are the worst in the world, feeling down on yourself and not getting motivated. Here are
Some 10 Signs To Know You Are Doing Better Than You Think
How many times do we look at our friends, or neighbors, and think they are doing better than we are, not knowing that they are also struggling to solve their own bit of life’s puzzle. It’s universal; everyone has a puzzle to solve. And you may think the weight of the world is on you until you take your eyes off your chest and look around.
Personally, I have had cause to get angry at God, the elements, myself, and whatever could feel the heat of my wrath, because of what I perceived to be overwhelming troubles of life. But I have learned that being thankful is the best response you can give to life and all it has to throw at you.
It’s not all gloom and doom, no matter what you’re going through. And for every difficult patch you’re grumbling through, someone somewhere is silently going through a worse situation. This alone is enough reason to be thankful.
The vicissitudes of life affect everybody, although you might think yours is worse. Just know this, that, whatever you are going through, you have the innate strength to come through it. You should be consoled in the fact that nobody else is carrying the exact same burden you are carrying, because they can’t. You were specially made.
No matter how bad you feel about yourself, you might actually be faring better than you think. If for a second you can look away from the things you don’t have and think about the things you have, I’ll show you some reasons why you may be doing quite better than you think.
#1 You saw today
If you can read this piece, it means you’re alive. And being alive means that you have hope. People passed on yesterday, and are still passing on, even now. It’s no mean feat to wake up this morning and see the sun rise. You should be grateful for this gift of life and pat yourself on the back, because you made it.
There are people desperately gasping for air in the ICUs of different hospitals, but here you are reading this. I think you are faring better than you think.
Life is a privilege, not a right. It is priceless; appreciate it!
#2 You had breakfast
This might sound so simple, but I can tell you that there are millions of people the world over who didn’t have breakfast today. And to make matters worse, they don’t know if there’d be lunch. You had breakfast this morning, no matter how little, then you are doing better than you probably think. It doesn’t matter if it wasn’t as tasty as you would have wanted, and it also doesn’t matter if you couldn’t get all that was on the menu. What matters is that you had breakfast.
#3 There is a roof over your head
Having a house to stay in to keep you from the cold and rain is a privilege a good number of people don’t have. It may look little, but it’s huge to many others out there.
Take a ride to any camp for refugees or displaced people and you’ll understand. Housing is a basic necessity of life, and if it doesn’t feel like a blessing to have a roof over your head, then you are doing better than you think.
#4 You have hope
In times of difficulty and pain, hope is what keeps you going. If you have hope for a better tomorrow, your problems are not too much. If you believe that something good is in the offing, you doing just fine.
There are people who have lost their battle for life and a good tomorrow, but here you are, still believing. If you have faith that you will achieve your goals, no matter what today is saying, then you’re doing well.
If you have life, you have hope; and if you have hope, you don’t have to worry too much.
#5 You are free
If you can do what you want, eat what you want, go wherever you want to go to, sleep when you want, and see who you want to see, then, you are doing better than you think.
Think of people who have lost their freedom to move, perhaps because they are incarcerated, or people who cannot feed through their mouths, perhaps due to illness, or people who cannot move, perhaps because they have lost limbs, and you’ll see that you are indeed blessed.
#6 You have someone to talk to
This world would be a lonely place without friends and relatives. And there are people who wander the streets without any. If you have a husband/wife, or kids, or parent(s), or friends, it’s a privilege.
Appreciate it. A shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen to you ramble, a heart to love you, are precious gifts of life. If you have them, you’re doing just fine.
A good friend is an invaluable treasure in times of need.
#7 You have clothes to wear
This is so basic, but you can tell that there are those who need charity to be able to wear clothes. You are doing better than you think, if you had no trouble finding some clothes to throw over your body today.
You may not look as dapper as you probably want, but it’s good enough to have something to hide your nakedness in.
#8 You can work
You may not have that dream job right now, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you have hands to work, a brain to think, eyes to see, and legs to walk. It would have been worse if for one reason or the other you can’t work.
You are in good shape, and ready to take any opportunity that presents itself to you, then, you are doing better than you think.
#9 You can feel pain
Life isn’t all about being happy all the time. Sometimes you laugh, at other times you cry. This is what makes life interesting. That you feel pain now, is not the end of the world.
It rather means that you are alive. If you can feel pain, be happy, because it means that you can also feel good and laugh when the tide turns in your favour.
Without pain, the beauty of success will not be appreciated.
#10 There’s someone you’re better than
You may not be where you want to be now, but if there is someone you can feed, clothe, shelter, or help in any way, then you are doing better than you think. It’s easy to believe that life has cheated you, or get angry that things are not working out as planned, but take a look around. You’ll see that you are better than a lot of people, and for this, you should be thankful.
The essence of this piece is to help you appreciate the little things you have, but don’t count as a blessing. It’s very easy to get lost in the mad rush to get all life has to offer, forgetting to be thankful for the little you have. It may not always be jolly; it may also not always be tough. But in whatever situation you find yourself, being thankful is the best thing to do.
Laugh when you are happy. Smile when you aren’t too happy. Still smile when you don’t feel like it. You can always force or fake a smile, because you might be doing better than you think.
